Shampoo like Jesus himself

A traditional natural remedy with modern relevance

Sidr (Ziziphus spina-christi), also known as the "Lote tree" or "Christ's thorn," is a plant with a history spanning millennia. In Arab countries and parts of North Africa, sidr has always been considered a sacred plant. It is even believed that the thorny branches of the sidr tree were used for the crown of thorns worn by Jesus Christ—hence the name "Christ's thorn." While this cannot be definitively proven scientifically, the tree's symbolic significance remains powerful.

Sidr has a long tradition of use, particularly in the Islamic world – be it in personal care, traditional medicine, or spiritual purification. The tree is mentioned several times in Hadiths, and it is still used today for ritual ablution (Ghusl).

Itchy scalp – a widespread problem

Many people suffer from itchy, tight, or flaky scalps. Common causes include harsh shampoos, frequent washing, styling products with synthetic ingredients, or environmental factors such as dry air from heating. All of these can disrupt the scalp's natural protective barrier and lead to irritation.

Sidr as a gentle solution

Sidr powder offers a particularly mild yet effective alternative to traditional shampoo. It cleanses the hair naturally, without surfactants, sulfates, or synthetic fragrances. At the same time, it soothes the scalp, relieves itching, and supports the restoration of the skin's natural barrier. Its anti-inflammatory and mildly antibacterial properties make it ideal for sensitive, stressed, or irritation-prone scalps.

Sidr is also excellent for hair care after coloring with plant-based hair dyes. It fixes the color without fading it and ensures nourished, shiny hair – completely without chemicals.

Switching from conventional shampoo to Sidr can require some patience. In the first few weeks, your hair may feel dull or weighed down – a sign that it's shedding silicones and surfactants. Once your scalp has regulated itself and your natural sebum production is balanced, the true effect becomes apparent: your hair will be noticeably stronger, shinier, and often needs washing less frequently. Those who stick with it will be rewarded with a healthy, balanced scalp and naturally nourished hair.

Application of Sidr

As a natural cleanser:

  1. Mix 1 teaspoon of Sidr powder with warm water until a creamy consistency is achieved.

  2. Apply to the scalp and damp hair like shampoo.

  3. Massage in briefly and rinse thoroughly.

As a nourishing hair treatment:

  1. Use a little more powder and mix as above.

  2. Distribute evenly over hair and scalp.

  3. Leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water – without shampoo.
